The Midnight Riders Fife and Drum Corps is one of the few corps in the country
that goes all out to give the audience a "total history experience". One of the
ways that the Corps members portray the life of an American Revolutionary War
fifer or drummer is by attending several reenactments throughout the year. Corps
members not only wear the uniforms and play instrument replicas of the 18th
century, but they also cook and camp out in the 18th century fashion. They camp
out in replica canvas tents, complete with straw or hay for the mattresses. They
"cook out" by re-creating recipes found in manuscripts of the time period using
cookware, silverware, and glassware documented to the 18th century. Each member
even "creates" a historical account of a person who may have lived during that
time. In addition to our performances based on the duty calls and army
entertainment, Corps members also enjoy playing games from the Revolutionary War
Period, such as Cribbage, Euchre, frying pan tosses, and Graces (a tossing game
played with two hoops and two sticks). Our fifers and drummers look forward to
participating in our reenactment events each year. You can see them and
experience "living history", at the Crossroads Village (Flint, Michigan)
Reenactment event, August 27-29.
